_Last time on our segment “The Writing World,” Dennis Cass of Dennis Cass Wants You To Be More Awesome gave us some insight into the state of the writing world. We value his opinions because, hey, he’s the man. And he knows his shit.
_Does Lee Future know his shit as well? Of course he does, that’s why we’re posting his answers too. So feel free to weigh in too. What do you think about all this? Do these guys have valid points? Will they change the writing world? Will Batman save the day again? Read on and find out!

Question 1: Who are you? What is your basic experience with writing, the writing world and the publishing world?
My name is Lee Future (aka Michael Lee Cook, for those who look down on pen names). I’ve a BA in Creative Writing from the University of Maryland at College Park. I’ve self published and published online and so far have had more luck selling freelance work than selling fiction.

Blatant self promotion: everywhereQuestion 2: Obviously all writers want to get published and make a few dollars, but what do you really hope to accomplish with your writing? Do you want to change the world, or just get the movie deal?
Writing is a stupid way to make a living. I think you only do it if you feel you have something to say, particularly fiction writing. Successful fiction is by far the most persuasive way to make an argument. There are quite a few ways I wish the world would change, and I believe that by telling a good story I can fool people into changing themselves. Read the rest of this entry »

68_Eyes Set to Kill: “The World Outside”
_This is Kid Brother, standing in for stat as music editor as stat is on vacation.
_A little more than a year ago, we reviewed Eyes Set to Kill’s debut CD Reach and honestly, we loved it. It was fun. It was ridiculous. It made us want to dance.
_Once we all got back from our respective study abroad programs, we threw ourselves into all the CDs we’d missed out on and found out that Eyes Set to Kill had a new album out. We jumped on it.
_It is not an album that leaps out at you, like the first one does. It is not an album that conveys the amateurish liveliness that is so much fun in so many debuts. Instead, it is a toned down, more mature, more subdued version of Reach. Take the title track, “The World Outside” for instance. Is it a better song than say, “Violent Kiss?” Yes, technically it is. Is it more fun? No, but I still like them both.
_While this CD might not be on the same level of moshability as their major label debut, this CD definitely conveys that first sort of awkward step towards real awesomeness that many sophomore CDs convey. We gave their last CD four out of five stars due to its sheer potential and we’re giving this one the same rating for the same reason. I mean, if they went on tour playing the best from both albums, I would gladly pay for front row tickets to that show.
